If your gross revenues are $50,000 annually/yearly, and you invested 8 % of your gross revenues of $50,000 into marketing and advertising for your business you would be investing $3,000. By investing that $3,000 you are likely to see a 34% increase in gross revenues [$50,000*.34 = $17,000 ($50,000+17,000= $67,000)]. Now that is a pretty hefty increase to your bottom line.

How does marketing and advertising affect your bottom line?

Marketing and Advertising is one of the best and most important expenses a business can incur. According the U.S. Small Business Administration, businesses should spend a minimum of 7-8% of its gross revenues on marketing and advertising. Research has shown businesses that invest in marketing and advertising see a 34-38% increase in gross sales and revenues annually.

See example below:

But what if you could increase your business’ Brand Awareness, drive more traffic to your website and social media pages, and expand your Target Market all while boosting your bottom line at NO UPFRONT COST to you?

There has never been a better time than the present to pick up traction and win over our people’s trust! Black Consumers are the least considered when most corporations are building their advertising and marketing campaigns. There are many reasons for the is, but the one that sticks out the most is that many corporations DO NOT KNOW HOW to market to us. Many Corporate CEOs and Executive staff are far removed from our people and our communities. All they know is what they have seen or heard from major media news outlets.

This simple but yet profound fact alone is considered by many of our people to be disheartening; however, we here at BHEMP consider it as yours and our competitive advantage. We know our people better than any other race of people does. We know what will make a tick and what will make up trip. But what many of us do not know is the POWER that we possess as a people! In fact:

Therefore, we here at BHEMP refer to our people as Empowered Buyers/EBs!

To further prove the POWER of OUR BLACK $, Research shows that African-American consumers are using social media to speak directly to brands. However, because many brands are not ready for this level of contact, they are losing out on our $. Young African-American consumer are extremely sensitive about the role of brands. We have great awareness of our culture and are not afraid to use social media to bring attention to anybody attacking our community or appropriating it. Social media is the tool that has given us, a marginalized group, our voice.

Additionally, research has shown that corporations are realizing that:

  • EBs Are Brand-Loyal-in order to gain our loyalty, corporations must invest $millions on research to help them to understand us and our buying behaviors.

  • EBs Are Cultural Influencers-our class, style, traditions, and culture starts trends, sets the tone, and influences future generations (we are the “Cool Factor”).

  • If they are not marketing to us, it will affect their bottom line-According to Andrew McCaskill, Senior Vice President of Global Communications and Multicultural Marketing at Nielsen, "When it comes to African-American consumer spending, there are millions, sometimes billions of dollars in revenue at stake."

Given these factors and findings, EBs have sent a message to corporate America and the world that is loud and clear; and that message is, “Since you would not give me a seat at your table, we have built our own-Buy Black!” This message has resonated with millions of people of the black diaspora internationally.

Are you Ready to Increase Your Revenues?

We are witnessing our people start successful businesses, branding ourselves, and making something out of nothing. There are has been such a surge of black businesses start-ups that various industries and markets are saturated with many of the same types of businesses offering the types of products or services.

However, the problem with this is that Industry saturation ultimately leads to businesses running sales and promotional campaigns at the same time on their own independent social media pages or websites in order to attract customers and increase revenues or simply to breakeven. In the meantime, consumers growingly become more and more frustrated because they are pulled in so many different directions; and eventually shop at places like Amazon, Etsy, and Shopify.

According to Nielsen Holdings plc (NYSE: NLSN), a global measurement and data analytics company that provides the most complete and trusted view available of consumers and markets worldwide, Black Americans spend approximately $1.3 Trillion annually; and we only make up 13.9% of the US population.

Black Americans outpace spending on a national level at a rate of 47.8 million strong with buying power that is par with many countries gross domestic products. Oh, now that’s BLACK POWER!

According to Nielsen, "Throughout 2017, popular brands witnessed the power of Black Twitter and the brand impact of socially conscious Black consumers. Through social media, Black consumers have brokered a seat at the table. There's a demand that brands and marketers speak to them in ways that resonate, culturally and experientially -- if these brands want their business." Also, "African Americans are more likely, than non-Hispanic white peers, to interact with brands on social media, or to use social networks to support companies and brands (44 percent more likely)."

As the power of social media merges with the educated and tech-savvy African-American consumers, there's never been a more crucial time for companies to use social media to create connections with this group. This would help to foster relationships, as well as protecting the company's bottom line.
